The United States Constitution
The US Constitution is another one of our country’s greatest documents that was created by those who founded our nation. It is special because the men who wrote it experienced tyranny, government overreach, and hardship. They wanted future generations to live in a free society.
Our Constitution is 235 years old! It was written in 1787 and ratified in 1788. It is the strongest, oldest, and most brilliant document ever! First, we need to understand the connection between the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States. Click HERE to learn the connection.
Next, we need to understand the Constitution and how it provides power to the people (popular sovereignty), gives structure to our government through separation of powers (the federal government is divided into three branches: legislative, executive, and judicial) and the way these branches are designed limits the power of the government (through checks and balances).
