Digging Deeper Into The Declaration of Independence
During the past three weeks we took a look at the three greatest American documents: the Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. Now let’s go back and dig a little deeper into what these documents say and mean for our freedom and civil liberties.
Today we will discover that the Declaration of Independence can be broken down into three sections. The first section is an introduction, otherwise known as the “Preamble” which explains the reason for the document. The second section (the body) is known as the “List of Grievances”. There are 27 grievances against King George III of Great Britian.
The Last Section is known as the “Resolution of Independence” or the conclusion. It clearly states that the American Colonies are free and independent of Great Britian and the King.

Also, Hillsdale College does an excellent job briefly explaining a couple of sentences in the Declaration of Independence. We hope you enjoy these short history lessons about our freedom!
